Commercial Motor Vehicle / Jessica’s Law Saturation Patrol

Directed Patrols are a high visibility, traffic enforcement effort aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities by reducing traffic crashes involving large trucks, buses and passenger vehicles.

Troopers worked collaboratively in specific areas of interstate highways and secondary roadways that support heavy commercial vehicle traffic. Targeted locations have been identified as high crash volume areas due to a variety of factors, to include, volume of traffic, congestion, and risky driving behavior. Driver behavior accounts as the principal factor in approximately 79% of crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.

The operation produced the following results:

  • 135 commercial motor vehicle stops
  • 143 various violations identified
  • 18 commercial motor vehicles placed out-of-service for equipment violations classifying them as being unsafe for the roadway, 7 of which were cited for failing to remove snow contrary to Jessica's Law
  • 14 commercial motor vehicle operators placed out-of-service due to various hours of service violations to include fatigue resulting in a crash, false report of driver's record of duty (false log) and operating a commercial motor vehicle without a Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

State Troopers assigned to Troop G regularly participate in enhanced enforcement initiatives throughout the year in an ongoing effort to reduce poor driving habits through education, awareness, partnerships with industry, and high visibility traffic enforcement.
