Maine Teen Arrested After Driving 125 MPH In Portsmouth
Troop A
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – A Maine teenager was arrested for speeding 125 mph on Interstate 95.
At 1:38 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Trooper Patrick Vetter of the Troop A barracks was patrolling Interstate 95 in Greenland when he observed a 2017 Subaru Legacy traveling northbound at 125 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.
While trying to catch up to the Subaru, Trooper Vetter coordinated with other Troopers who were on patrol. Trooper McClure soon observed the Subaru drive past him at a high rate of speed. Troopers Vetter and McClure attempted to stop the driver, but the Subaru fled at a high rate of speed.
The driver then left Interstate 95 northbound via Exit 5 and continued to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, where the Subaru crashed into multiple traffic signs. The driver then attempted to continue for a short distance before stopping on the Route 1 Bypass North, where Troopers and members of the Portsmouth Police Department detained all occupants of the Subaru.
Troopers identified the driver as Michael A. Wozny, 18, of Westbrook, Maine, and multiple passengers were identified as juveniles. During the investigation, Troopers developed probable cause that Wozny was impaired. He also initially provided a false identity to the Troopers. Once positively identified, it was determined that Wozny did not hold a valid driver’s license.
Wozny was evaluated at a local area hospital and determined to have suffered no injuries. Two of the juvenile passengers were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. All juvenile passengers were ultimately released to parents or guardians.
Wozny was charged with three felony counts of reckless conduct, two misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer, three misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs or liquor, three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor operating without a valid license, misdemeanor criminal mischief, a transportation of alcohol by a minor violation, and a violation of reckless operation. Wozny declined bail and was held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections pending an appearance in Portsmouth District Court on April 29, 2025.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Portsmouth Police Department and the Portsmouth Fire Department.
All aspects of the incident remain under investigation by Trooper Patrick Vetter. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Trooper Vetter at Patrick.R.Vetter@DOS.NH.GOV.
