Motor Vehicle Collision - Route 16 South, Dover
On September 12th, 2021 at approximately 8:05PM, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police - Troop A Barracks responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision along Route 16 South (Spaulding Turnpike) in the vicinity of Exit #7 in the City of Dover.
Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a 2005 Honda Accord, being operated by Cameron Peters, age 22, of York, Maine, had been traveling upon Route 16 North prior to Exit #7 when the Honda experienced a mechanical problem. As a result, Peters lost control of the Honda, subsequently striking a guardrail on the left shoulder of the highway before traveling across all lanes of Route 16 North and striking a guardrail on the right shoulder of the highway. After over-correcting, the Honda swerved across the highway again before traversing the guardrail located in the median separating the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 16. Upon traveling over the guardrail, the Honda collided head-on with a 2019 Volvo XC40 being operated by Thomas Carr, age 31, of Portsmouth, NH. Following the collision, the Honda came to rest within the left travel lane of Route 16 South while the Volvo continued a short distance before coming to rest atop a guardrail located upon the right shoulder of Route 16 South. Both Peters and Carr were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene of the collision but suffered only possible minor injuries and neither operator was transported to a medical facility. As a result of information developed through on-scene investigation, Peters was issued a citation for Negligent Driving.
Through a coordinated effort between multiple agencies, Route 16 South was closed and traffic was diverted off of Exit #7 for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes while Troopers to investigated the scene and emergency personnel worked to facilitate the removal of the vehicles involved and associated debris.
