Motor Vehicle Crash Involving State Police Cruiser in Bow

BOW, New Hampshire – On January 3, 2023, at approximately 11:18 AM, New Hampshire State Police Troop D responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 93 North in the Town of Bow, NH.

During this time Michael Dimattia, 31 of Concord, NH was operating a 1999 Nissan in the high-speed lane. Dimattia attempted to merge into the middle lane. During this attempt, he crashed into the back of a 2020 Ford Transit van operated by Danielle Checchi, 30 of Walpole, NH.  As a result of this crash, Dimattia lost control of his vehicle and veered into the right break down lane.

During this time Troopers Plourde and Abbate were in the right break down lane, assisting a broken down motorist with their emergency lights activated. Once Dimattia entered the breakdown lane, he crashed into the back of the State Police cruiser.

Both the State Police cruiser and Nissan were towed from the scene by New England Truck Center. The Ford van was driven from the scene.  Dimattia and both Troopers were transported to local medical facilities to be evaluated for injuries. There were no injuries sustained by Checchi.

Two lanes of the highway were closed for a period of time while the scene was being investigated. The New Hampshire State Police were assisted on the scene by Bow Fire and Rescue, New Hampshire Department of Transportation and New England Truck Center.

All aspects of this crash are still under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Sergeant Gregg De Luca at (603) 223-8830 or Gregg.M.DeLuca@dos.nh.gov.
