Piscataqua River Death Investigation

Troop A

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – The New Hampshire State Police is investigating the death of a man in the Piscataqua River. At this time, investigators do not believe the death is suspicious.

At 7:08 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, State Troopers assigned to the Troop A barracks responded to a report of a stopped car in the breakdown lane on the I-95 northbound side of the Piscataqua River Bridge.

About 30 minutes later, an adult male was found in the Piscataqua River. The person was recovered and transported to a local area hospital. Life-saving measures were taken but were unsuccessful.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.

Troopers were assisted by members of the Portsmouth Police Department, New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol, the Portsmouth Fire Department, and the United States Coast Guard.
