Pursuit Suspect Arrested After Crash In Massachusetts
GREENLAND, N.H. – A suspect who reached triple-digit speeds on Interstate 95 and failed to stop for New Hampshire State Troopers was taken into custody in Massachusetts following a crash.
Around 11:30 a.m. today, Nov. 27, 2024, the New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit and members of the Troop A barracks were using the State Police airplane to conduct a traffic enforcement initiative on Interstate 95 in Greenland in response to recent hazardous driving behaviors and crashes in the area. During the effort, Trooper Samuel Provenza was monitoring traffic from the aircraft when he observed a dark-colored vehicle at speeds in excess of 100 mph while passing other vehicles.
Trooper Provenza continued to monitor the speeding driver from above and notified Trooper First Class Scott Garton on the ground, who attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver continued southbound at high rates of speed.
While personnel in the State Police aircraft followed the vehicle, Troopers noted the driver appeared to increase speed and used all lanes on the road, including the breakdown lane, to pass other vehicles. Troopers continued to pursue and maintained visual contact with the vehicle into Massachusetts, where the Massachusetts State Police joined the pursuit. However, due to public safety concerns, Troopers from both states soon disengaged while the fleeing vehicle continued southbound.
Minutes later, Troopers learned the vehicle went off the road and crashed after the driver failed to negotiate a curve near Exit 76B. The driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit, an adult male, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The identity of the driver remains under investigation and criminal charges in both states are forthcoming. Additional information will be released as appropriate.
