Pursuit Suspect Arrested Following Standoff On Interstate 89

CONCORD, N.H. – A driver was taken into custody after a pursuit and a brief standoff.
At 10:22 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, State Troopers assigned to Troop D barracks tried to stop the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox for lane control violations on Clinton Street in Concord. Despite the Troopers’ use of emergency lights and sirens, the driver increased speed and continued to have lane control issues, traveling through Concord and Hopkinton.
During the pursuit, the driver nearly hit another vehicle on Interstate 89 northbound in Concord. Troopers were later able to successfully deflate the SUV’s tires using a tire deflation device near Exit 4, however, the driver continued northbound on I-89 for about a mile before crashing into the right guardrail. The driver then refused commands from Troopers, prompting a 20-minute standoff. During the standoff, I-89 was closed in the area of mile marker 7. Eventually, the driver got out of the SUV and was taken into custody.
The driver of the Equinox was identified as Desiree Charter, 38, of Nashua. Charter was transported to Concord Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers later learned the Concord Police Department also tried to stop the same vehicle earlier in the evening, but the driver failed to stop for officers, who chose to terminate their pursuit.
Charter has been charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, driving after being deemed a habitual offender, possession of a controlled drug - subsequent, aggravated DUI, driving under the influence and disobeying an officer. Charter is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court on Jan. 10, 2025.
