Stolen Vehicle Pursuit / Arrest - Brentwood
On October 12th, 2021 at approximately 9:32PM, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police – Troop A Barracks were alerted to an ongoing vehicle pursuit of a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder which had been initiated by the Newton, NH Police Department for a speeding violation. The pursuit subsequently entered into the Town of Amesbury, Massachusetts, at which time the vehicle pursuit was continued by the Amesbury, Massachusetts Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. Eventually, these pursuing agencies discontinued the vehicle pursuit when the Nissan traveled along Interstate 95 North into the State of New Hampshire.
At approximately 9:58PM, Trooper Geoffrey Miller, of the New Hampshire State Police – Troop A Barracks, located the Nissan along Interstate 95 North in the Town of Hampton, New Hampshire. Around this time, Troopers received information that the Nissan had been reported stolen out of the City of Boston, Massachusetts. Through further investigation, this information was later confirmed. Given this information, Trooper Miller eventually initiated a vehicle pursuit of the Nissan on Route 101 West in the Town of Brentwood, New Hampshire. During the vehicle pursuit, the Nissan traveled at excessive rates of speed and was operated in an erratic manner. Eventually, the Nissan exited Route 101 West and traveled onto Route 125 North in the Town of Epping, New Hampshire. After traveling onto a series of side roads adjacent to Route 125 in the Town of Epping, the Nissan returned to Route 125 North near the intersection of Hedding Road in the Town of Epping. At this time, Sergeant Thomas Conlon, of the New Hampshire State Police – Troop A Barracks, deployed tire deflation devices (stop sticks), flattening the tires of the Nissan. After continuing for a short distance, the Nissan came to a stop and the operator, the lone occupant in the vehicle, was taken into custody without further incident.
Through further investigation and with the assistance of the Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Department in making a positive identification, the operator was identified as Braulio A. MATOS, age 31, of Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a result of this investigation, MATOS was charged with Receiving Stolen Property (Class A Felony), Reckless Conduct (Class B Felony), Disobeying An Officer (Class A Misdemeanor), Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs (Class A Misdemeanor), Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs (Class A Misdemeanor), Driving Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs (Class B Misdemeanor), and Operating Without a Valid License (Class A Misdemeanor). Following his arrest, MATOS was held in preventative detention at the Rockingham County House of Corrections facility pending an arraignment on the foregoing charges in the Rockingham County Superior Court on October 13th, 2021.
The Nissan was impounded pending application for a search warrant and additional charges may be forthcoming.
Multiple agencies assisted the New Hampshire State Police – Troop A Barracks during this event and the investigation thereafter, to include the Newton Police Department, the Epping Police Department, the Amesbury, Massachusetts Police Department, the Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Department, the Boston, Massachusetts Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police.
