Update: Arrest Made In Fatal New London Crash

On Oct. 25, 2024, Vincent Mendillo was arrested on a warrant and has been charged with negligent homicide, reckless conduct, aggravated DWI and second-degree assault. 

Mendillo was arraigned today, Oct. 28, 2024, in Newport District Court. Bail was set at $25,000.

The deceased passenger is identified as Salma Garcia, 26, of Mission Viejo, California. The crash remains under investigation.

Initial News Release - Oct. 6, 2024

NEW LONDON, N.H. – One person is deceased and another is seriously hurt following an early morning crash in New London.

At approximately 12:50 a.m. today, Oct. 6, 2024, officers from the New London Police Department and Sunapee Police Department, as well as members of New London Hospital EMS and the New London Fire Department, responded to a report of a collision on Little Sunapee Road in New London.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they determined a 2024 Hyundai Elantra had been traveling southeast when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road to the right. The Hyundai went off the left side of the road, striking a utility trailer parked on the side of the road. The Hyundai then caught on fire.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Vincent Mendillo, 27, of Mission Viejo, California, was seriously injured and transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment. A passenger, whose name is being withheld pending official identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

At the request of the New London Police Department, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit responded to investigate the crash, with the assistance of State Troopers from the Troop D barracks and members of the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
