Welfare Check/Reckless Conduct, Barrington

On Tuesday March 2, 2021 at approximately 1:30 pm, an Officer of the Barrington Police Department responded to a residence located at 33 Cortland Way in Barrington to conduct a welfare check of Daniel Peavey, age 58 of said address. As the Officer attempted to make contact with Mr. Peavey, he was met with gunfire from the inside the residence. The Officer took evasive action and positioned himself a safe distance from the residence, where he was able to request additional resources.

Personnel from several area police agencies, NH State Police-Troop A, the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit, and The Seacoast Emergency Response Team responded to the scene. A perimeter was quickly established around the residence, and after several hours and multiple unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Mr. Peavey, tactical unit members made entry into the residence. Upon making entry, officers located a deceased individual who was later identified as Daniel Peavey. Officers determined that Mr. Peavey was the only individual within the residence.

No Law Enforcement Officers discharged their firearm throughout the duration of this incident and no officer-involved injuries were sustained.

Members of the Barrington Police Department were assisted at the scene by members of New Hampshire State Police- Troop A, New Hampshire State Police Bomb Squad, Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit, Seacoast Emergency Response Team, Strafford Police Department, Rochester Police Department, Barrington Fire and EMS, Strafford County Sheriff's Department and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
