Saturation Enforcement for Commercial Motor Vehicles, Carroll, Epping, Sanbornton, Sanbornville, and Windham

On May 30, 2019 members of New Hampshire State Police – Troop G conducted commercial motor vehicle enforcement in the towns of Carroll, Epping, Sanbornton, Sanbornville, and Windham, New Hampshire. In order to reduce traffic collisions involving commercial motor vehicles, Troopers from Troop G specifically focused their enforcement efforts on ensuring that commercial motor vehicles were in safe mechanical operating condition, drivers were compliant with hours of service, and drivers had obtained proper licensing credentials.

Members of Troop G are highly skilled Troopers who have received specialized training to conduct roadside inspections of commercial motor vehicles. During the daylong event, Troopers inspected 134 commercial motor vehicles and discovered 285 violations. Of those violations, 38 were so severe that they created a condition where the vehicle or its driver was placed out of service.

In Windham, Troopers stopped a 2003 Hino and found that the frame of the vehicle was cracked in three locations. Additionally, the driver did not possess a required commercial driver's license in order operate the vehicle. Also in Windham, Troopers located a 2002 International truck being operated with a 9,000 pound excavator unsecured in the cargo area of the truck. Troopers inspected a 1988 Kenworth towing a 2005 trailer in Windham. During the inspection, a Trooper found that none of the brakes on the steering axle of the truck were functioning.

In Epping, Troopers stopped a 2017 Dodge commercial motor vehicle where the driver was found to be in possession of alcohol, despite being prohibited from doing so. Also in Epping, Troopers stopped a 2007 Chevy towing a 2019 trailer where it was discovered that the driver did not possess a required commercial driver's license in order operate the vehicle. The trailer was found to have inoperative brakes, a broken emergency braking device, as well as inoperable brake lights.

In Carroll, Troopers stopped a 2014 Isuzu commercial motor vehicle and found that the brakes were contaminated with oil that was leaking from the wheel hub.

In Sanbornville, a Trooper located a 1990 Ford truck towing a modular home trailer along Route 16 that had lost a tire. It was discovered during the subsequent inspection that the wheel fasteners securing the tire to the wheel hub on the modular home had failed. The Trooper also observed that the safety chains connecting the trailer to the tractor were so warn that it caused the vehicle to be placed out of service.
