Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Ford Explorer, operated by Richard Rosa, Age 56, of Lowell, MA, was traveling north on Interstate 93. It is believed that his vehicle suffered a malfunction to its rear tire which caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and into the wooded median. Mr. Rosa was subsequently ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was subsequently transported to Speare Memorial Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries, however he succumbed to those injuries.

The passenger, Marianne Rosa, Age 24, of Lowell MA, sustained what are believed to be life-threatening injuries and was flown by the DHART medical helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

Interstate 93 was closed and traffic was diverted for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated. The New Hampshire State Police were assisted on scene by the Thornton Police Department and Campton/Thornton Fire Department.

All aspects of this crash remain under investigation including causation. Anyone that may have further information related to this crash, please contact Trooper Derek Newcomb at 603-846-3333 or email at derek.l.newcomb@dos.nh.gov.
