Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash - Route 101, Amherst

On Friday, April 5, 2019 at approximately 11:30pm, Amherst Police Department was requested to respond to a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 101 in the town of Amherst, New Hampshire. Upon their arrival they located 2 vehicles at the scene. The first vehicle was identified as a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 pickup truck. The second vehicle was identified as a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Based upon the initial investigation, the GMC pick-up was traveling westbound when it crossed the yellow center line and struck the Hyundai, head-on, as it was traveling eastbound. The operator of the GMC pick-up was identified as Tyler Berry, age 27, of Amherst, NH. Berry sustained serious bodily injuries and was taken to Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. He was eventually arrested at the hospital and charged with Felony Aggravated Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. The operator of the Hyundai Santa Fe was identified as Sierra Croteau, age 21, of Manchester, NH. Croteau sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Due to the seriousness of the crash, Amherst Police Department requested that the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit respond.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit was assisted on scene by Amherst Police Department as well as Troopers from the Troop B Barracks, Amherst Fire/EMS and Bedford Police Department. Due to the collision, Route 101 in the area of Manchester Road was closed for approximately 5 hours.

At this time it appears that impairment was a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation.
