Man Arrested After Presenting Fraudulent Medical Certificate

TWIN MOUNTAIN, New Hampshire –   On February 14, 2024, Trooper David Lyon of the New Hampshire State Police Troop G Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit, stopped a commercial motor vehicle being operated by Compton Products Inc of Plattsburgh, NY, for a motor carrier safety inspection. The commercial motor vehicle, transporting building material from Maine to New York was being operated by:

Edmund J. Combs
Age: 66
Plattsburg, NY

As part of the inspection, Combs presented to Trooper Lyon a required medical certificate, indicating that he was medically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the medical certificate was, in fact, fraudulent.

Drivers of commercial motor vehicles operating in commerce are required to possess a current, valid medical certificate. This requirement ensures that truckers are healthy and capable of performing the regular duties of their job.

Combs was arrested and charged with Forgery and Tampering with Public Records. Combs was released on personal recognizance bail and ordered to appear at the Littleton District Court in April 2024.

The Troop G Motor Carrier Unit is comprised of trained and experienced commercial motor vehicle examiners in the state of New Hampshire who are certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.  Their primary mission is to ensure the safety of the motoring public by focusing their enforcement efforts on Commercial Motor Vehicles.  Their work supports the education and adherence of Motor Carriers to the federal regulations that support commerce and keep our roadways safe for all.
