Man Arrested in Attempt to Obtain a Driver’s License with a False Identity

Smailin Rafael Peguero Argitis bookinf photoOn March 3, 2021, members of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop G – Investigations Unit arrested Smailin Rafael Peguero Argitis, 31, of Salem, New Hampshire. Investigators had received information that Peguero Argitis was using a fraudulent identity. Further investigation revealed that Peguero Argitis had presented documents identifying himself as Emanuel Rosario-Morales, a native of Puerto Rico, to the Division of Motor Vehicles with the purpose of obtaining a driver's license and the registration of motor vehicles.

An arrest warrant was obtained and Peguero Argitis was taken into custody at the Salem Police Department without incident. He was charged with Forgery, Title Fraud, Identity Fraud, Unsworn Falsification, and Tampering with Public Records. He was released on Personal Recognizance bail and will be arraigned at a later date in the Merrimack Superior Court.

Throughout the course of the investigation members of New Hampshire State Police - Troop G were assisted by the Massachusetts State Police – Fraud Identification Unit, Quincy Massachusetts Police Department and the Salem, New Hampshire Police Department.

The New Hampshire State Police Troop G – Investigations Unit is comprised of highly skilled Troopers who are assigned to the Division of Motor Vehicles. They have received specialized training in the detection of fraud as well as fraudulent documentation and are often called upon for their expertise in this area.
