Motor Vehicle Pursuit Ends With DUI Arrest

scene of motor vehicle pursuit and arrestCanterbury, New Hampshire – On November 29, 2022, at 1:45 PM, New Hampshire State Police Troop D received a call for service from a concerned citizen about a hazardous operator on Interstate 93 North in Canterbury, NH. The caller reported a blue pick-up truck that was having significant lane control issues. Within minutes, Trooper Brooks was behind the vehicle observing the same hazardous operation. Trooper Brooks activated his emergency lights and siren but the vehicle refused to stop, actively eluding the Trooper.

Trooper Brooks and Trooper Davis initiated a motor vehicle pursuit and continued northbound. During the pursuit, the operator continued to have lane control issues, almost striking a New Hampshire Department of Transportation worker who was conducting maintenance in the breakdown lane on Interstate 93 in Tilton, NH. The vehicle took Exit 20 and approached a set of lights. Trooper Davis and Trooper Brooks utilized their cruisers to block the suspect vehicle from entering the busy intersection in attempts to safely end the pursuit and prevent injury to citizens in the area.

The male exited the vehicle and was identified as Michael G. Burnham, Age: 54, Tilton, NH.

Burnham was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI. He was released on personal recognizance bail for the charges of:

  • Disobeying an Officer
  • Resisting Arrest/Detention
  • DUI impairment
  • Reckless Operation
  • Open Container
  • Lane Control

with a Franklin District court date of December 12, 2022.
