Rollover Crash Shuts Down Route 101 In Candia

Troop A

CANDIA, N.H. – An early-morning crash on Route 101 left four people hurt and resulted in an hourslong road closure.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. today, April 23, Troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 101 East in Candia. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the median. The vehicle proceeded to strike a raised rock cutout, dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes, and subsequently rolled over multiple times. After the vehicle came to rest in the middle of the eastbound lanes, it was sideswiped by another vehicle whose driver was unable to see the disabled Camry in the roadway.

A female passenger in the Camry sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. The driver, along with two other passengers, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

The eastbound lanes of Route 101 were closed for approximately three hours while Troopers conducted an investigation. Due to the severity of the crash, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit was requested to respond. Troop A was also assisted by members of Troop B, the Candia Police Department, Candia Fire and Rescue, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

The identities of the occupants are being withheld at this time, pending notifications to next of kin and further investigation. All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has further information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Tyler Dodds at Tyler.M.Dodds@dos.nh.gov or State Police Communications at (603) 223-4381.
