State Police Cruiser Accident - Interstate 95 Side Tolls, Hampton

On August 17, 2018, at approximately 6:17 pm, Trooper Berky of New Hampshire State Police Mobile Enforcement Team was attempting to cross traffic, on the access road from Interstate 95 to Route 101 just south of the toll booth, to respond to a fellow Trooper conducting a high risk motor vehicle stop.

Trooper Berky was attempting to cross the access road from the northern side to the southern side. Trooper Berky had the emergency lights activated on his cruiser as he pulled into traffic. Two lanes of traffic coming out of the tolls observed Trooper Berky's cruiser with the emergency lights activated and stopped to allow him to cross. Robert Kelley, of Albuquerque, NM, was coming out of the EZ pass only lane operating a 2017 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck and did not see Trooper Berky's cruiser crossing ahead of him. When Kelley did see the cruiser he was unable to avoid a collision.

Trooper Berky was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injury. Mr. Kelley was not injured in the crash.

Traffic in both directions was delayed due to the crash.

Assisting the New Hampshire State Police at the scene were the Hampton Police and Fire Departments.

This accident remains under investigation by Sgt. Kane. Anyone with information pertaining to this collision is asked to contact Sgt. Kane, NH State Police/Troop A at (603) 223-8608, or at david.kane@dos.nh.gov.
