Vehicle Fire

PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire – On February 6, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the New Hampshire State Police were notified of a motor vehicle incident along Interstate 95 North in the City of Portsmouth.  Upon arrival, Troop A Troopers located a disabled vehicle in the middle of the roadway, atop the Piscataqua Bridge, that was fully engulfed in flames.

The vehicle, a 2007 GMC Acadia, had been traveling northerly along the Interstate when, for unknown reasons, experienced catastrophic failure and stopped moving.  After stopping, the vehicle began to smoke and was quickly consumed by fire.  At the time of these events, the vehicle was occupied by four individuals.  All parties were able to exit the vehicle without injury.

All four lanes of the Interstate were closed for approximately one and a half hours while emergency personnel worked to make the roadway safe and passable.  The New Hampshire State Police were assisted by the Kittery, Maine Police Department, Kittery, Maine Fire Department, Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department and Dana’s Towing.
